Power to Change
Take Back the High Street

How can we to halt the accelerating decline on our high streets and stop our town centres descending into a sea of shuttered up shop fronts? Could greater community power on the high street be the answer?

This video was created for Power to Change to launch Take Back the High Street, a campaign to deliver a new vision for the UK’s beleaguered high streets, putting community and community power at the heart of our future town centres. This campaign aimed to: influence public policy around the high streets debate; inspire communities to demand greater say over their high streets; illustrate how communities are already creating positive impacts on the high street; and deliver hope for the survival of the UK high street which has been in decline for three decades.

With location shoots in Plymouth, Crystal Palace and Radcliffe near Manchester, the film demonstates the difference empowered communities can have in regeneration and the important role high streets play in supporting local economies, creating community cohesion, and delivering distinctiveness and civic pride.
