Virtual Pilgrimage

The closure of places of worship due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 created unprecedented challenges for Chichester Cathedral in connecting with worshipers and visitors. Live webstreaming of services was an immediate priority (and one in which Hunter Gatherer continues to support the Cathedral and Dioscese) but new ways had to be found to bring people into the Cathedral safely and remotely.

To mark the feast day of Saint Richard and Sussex Day, Hunter Gatherer was asked to create a virtual pilgrimage, from the Cathedral’s West Door to the historic Shrine of Saint Richard and discover more about the well-trodden route and the history of the many chapels, objects and art along the way. The Shrine of St Richard, a bishop of Chichester in the 13th century whose relics lie behind the High Altar, is considered one of most important in the land. Over the centuries, it has drawn many to both the city and the Cathedral. 

Shot at 8K resolution and produced completely in-house, Hunter Gatherer created an online 360° virtual tour that incorporates clickable hot-spots to allow visitors to delve deeper and find out more about spaces, artwork and artefacts; interactive elements, such as opening doors and candles to light; as well as the ability to make a donation.
